JAKE

Wise Winemaker Jake Bacchus (BWSc) is audacious, well travelled and enthusiastic in his winemaking as in his life. Jake balances a fearless approach to trying new things with a profound respect for the traditions and philosophies of those who have gone before him in endless pursuit of higher quality.

After graduating from the Rudolf Steiner School in New Zealand Jake gained his bachelor of wine science degree from EIT in Napier. Early winery stints at McWilliams in Australia’s Hunter Valley only fed a desire to travel and experience the greater world of winemaking. Jake spent the early years of the new millennium in the mountains of Piedmonte, north-west Italy working with Marchese di Gresy and Araldica Vini, Cascionone before heading to California’s Napa Valley to take up a position at the Bryant Family Vineyards.  The exposure to passion, tradition, technology and innovation, both old & new during these vintages has proven invaluable to Jake’s outlook on winemaking.

Jake balanced his northern hemisphere vintages with southern hemisphere vintages at Craggy Range and the Blake Family Vineyard in Hawkes Bay in his native New Zealand.

In 2007 Jake left New Zealand to take up the invitation of a position with Cherubino Consultancy and spent his first vintage at Wise Vineyards.

When Jake does manage to drag himself away from the winery he can usually be found surfing, rock climbing, mountain biking or generally finding new means of putting himself (and his palate) in harm’s way! In 2008 Jake was appointed senior winemaker which heralds the beginning of what promises to be an exhilarating and exciting future for all of us at Wise.

 ANDREW

Andrew Bromley is a native Western Australian, as a child the countless weekends spent in Margaret River -surfing, fishing and lazing at the beach- have fostered in him a deep affinity for the region.  After the obligatory surfing tour of Europe (which took in stints as a wine waiter in some of London’s most famous restaurants),   Andrew returned to Margaret River to pursue a career in winemaking. Andrew found his feet at Wise in Eagle Bay and has spent the past seven vintages mastering his craft, honing his skills, helping us produce award winning wines and nicking off for a surf whenever there’s a decent swell.
